I am the artist behind SJ Designs Edge. I make art, clothing, and room redesigns from materials that were headed out the door. Nothing I make exists twice.
Where it started
It started with a coat. A thrifted wool coat I loved and then wore through at the elbows. Most people would have thrown it out. I cut it apart instead, and by the end of the afternoon I had the beginnings of a wall piece I still have today.
That moment cracked something open. I started seeing materials differently: a salvaged window frame as a canvas, copper wire from a broken appliance as texture, fabric scraps as color fields. The question stopped being "what is this?" and became "what could this be?"
SJ Designs Edge grew from that question. Every piece I make now starts from something that had a previous life. I keep notes on each material: what it was, where it came from, how it found its way into the work. That traceability is part of what I make.
How pieces come to life
I work with materials I can hold in my hands and understand the history of. Thrifted textiles. Salvaged hardware. Found objects people left on the curb or donated without knowing what they had. Each one starts a conversation in my mind before it starts one in my hands.
One-of-a-kind is not a sales term here. It is a fact of the process. When the material is gone, the piece cannot be recreated. I will never have the same scrap of copper mesh, the same run of fabric, the same collection of salvaged tiles. What gets made is what gets made, exactly once.
That is the part people feel when they hold the work. Not just that it is handmade, but that it carries a specific story they are now the keeper of.
What I make
Art
Wall pieces, mixed-media works, and sculptural objects built from salvaged and found materials. Each comes with a material note: what went in, what it used to be. The story is part of what you hang on the wall.
Clothing
Reworked garments and handmade pieces from thrifted and deadstock fabric. Nothing is recreated at scale. Each piece fits one person and reflects the material it came from. Wear something that has already lived a life.
Room redesign
Bring a room, a vision, or a pile of materials you want to do something with. I work with what you have, source what you need, and transform the space into something that did not look like anyone else's room before and still won't.
